NSLA Welcome Letter and Suggested School Supplies
Welcome to NSLA! I hope you are enjoying the summer as a family and getting some much needed rest. There are many exciting things planned for the upcoming school year and I hope that you and your child will be able to take advantage of everything we have to offer. Below is some very important information regarding NSLA in order to make the beginning of the school year as smooth as possible. As always my door is open to parents as is the door of our Parent Coordinator who can be reached at 718-601-2869 ext. 252.
Uniforms: NSLA is a uniform school. PLEASE SEE THE ATTACHED ORDER FORM. Our students wear the NSLA polo shirt every day, which is purchased at NSLA along with the NSLA gym uniform. Students wear khakis (any color) and that you purchase on your own.
This year we are also selling sweatshirts with a hoodie. These are the only hoodies students will be allowed to wear during the school day. Therefore it is best you purchase them early before the cold weather reaches us. At no time are students allowed to come to school with ripped jeans, flip flops, t-shirts with inappropriate images/ phrases, or tank tops. No hoodies are allowed unless it is an NSLA hoodie. Students may wear shorts only when it has been announced that it is allowed. At NSLA we want our students to be academically successful and we want them to come to school every day DRESSED FOR SUCCESS!
Uniforms may be purchased on the following days:
-Tuesday-8/29, 9am-1pm (Doors close at 12:30pm)

NSLA’s Morris Heights Health Clinic: We are blessed at NSLA to have The Morris Heights Health Clinic! This is not your typical school nurse office. This is an actual clinic that provides medical services, counseling and educational services. The NSLA School Based Health Center will play an important role in our school community for the upcoming year and it will also work with school officials to offer parent workshops on teen health.
In order to receive everything the clinic has to offer students must be registered. All students are REQUIRED to register. This allows us to make sure that in case of an emergency, all students can be taken care of extensively. APPLICATIONS WILL BE HANDED OUT TO STUDENTS THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 11TH.
Our clinic also offers students free vaccinations. Please review the attached letters from the NYS Department of Education and Health regarding all of the new vaccine requirements for 6th and 7th graders. Students who do not have their vaccines up to date will be excluded from school.
Daily Life @ NSLA: Doors open at 7:40am and students go into the cafeteria where breakfast is served till 8:00am. Classes begin at 8:15 and students are dismissed at 2:35pm. Even though, middle school students no longer pay for lunch, parents are required to fill out Lunch Forms. The easiest way to do this is to go to nyc.applyforlunch.com and apply online. This reduces the amount of paperwork for you to deal with.
All students must come every day with a book bag with the necessary materials to be successful: pens, pencils, notebooks, and completed homework assignments. On the first day of school teachers will provide students with supply lists. However, below is a generic list so you can start your back to school shopping early:
Back to School Literacy and Health Fair: On Saturday, August 26 from 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. will host a Back to School Literacy and Health Fair at MS 181. See the attachments below for more information.
One Last Thing: On behalf of the entire faculty, staff, and administration I want to welcome everyone to NSLA and I truly look forward to the 2017-2018 school year.
